Despite sustained pressure to reduce costs and limit international assignments, temporary long term assignments continue to be the most common type of assignment. While the traditional balance sheet (or home country based) long term assignment policy still dominates, surveys indicate that companies are beginning to experiment with alternative policy types, such as the use of host country based assignment policies.
